There was a Henry Martain who was taxed in the Accomack County,Virginia, Personal Property Tax 1787 - list "B" on one horse. The"Notes" section of the 1787 census does not indicate why he was nottaxed, although the usual reason for not being taxed was due to age.

In the name of God Amen, I James P. Groton of the County of Accomackand State of Virginia, being in bad health but of sound and disposingmind and memory, do make and ordain this my last will and testament,hereby revoking all former wills by me at anytime made.
First - I will and direct that my Executor hereinafter named, do outof any cash I may have in hand at the time of my death, or out of thefirst moneys which may come to his hands, pay to my wife Matilda E.Groton the sum of fifty dollars ($50), my object being , in this, togive this amount at her disposal to furnish herself and children sucharticles of necessity as they may require.
Second - I give my son Lafayette W. Groton, my gold watch and chain -to be kept for him by my executor or his mother, until he arrives+atsuch an age, as my executor may think it prudent for him to ware it.
Third - I give my piano to my two daughters Ella S. & Maggie N. Groton- and in case of the death of either the one or the other, before shearrives at the age of twenty-one years, the survivor is to take theshare or half of the deceased.
Fourth - Immediately upon my death I direct that steps be taken tosell out the sotre of James P. Groton & Brothers, that thereafter nomore goods shall be purchased in the name of the firm, and that allnecessary and proper steps shall be taken to realize my two thirdsinterest in said goods, and the assets of said firm.
Fifth - I authorize and direct my executor to sell all or any portionof my real estate, whenever he may consider that the interest of myestate will be promoted thereby, providing my wife, if living approvesof such sale, and signifies her assent to the same by writing thereinand thereby relinquishing her dower therein. and if such a sale ismade it is my intention that my wife, if living, shall have in lieu ofher dower, such an interest in the proceeds as a widow may be entitledto, to be determined by the law of Virginia in such case made andprovided. And this discretion thus vested in my executor is to existuntil arrival at the age of twenty one years of one of my children oruntil the death of all, and in either event to cease & be determined.But it is not my intentions to require him as Executor to rent outsaid lands or to account for the rents & profits thereof before suchsale, if any is made. The discretion thus vested in my executor as tothe sale of my land, I intend as a personal trust in Executor named &if he should die or fail to qualify it is not my intention to conferthat authority upon an Administrator.
Sixth - The provision made for my wife herein, is not intended to bein lieu of dower or her distributed share of personal estate.
Seventh - I request my wife to give her niece Sue A. Langsdale, ahome in her family as long as she remains single or chooses to enjoythis privilege or so long as my wife keeps house. This is a singlerequest, but is not to be regarded as imperative upon my wife.
Eight - In the event of the sale of any of my real estate by myexecutor, under the fifth clause of this my will; after said sale, itis my intention that the proceeds thereof shall be regarded aspersonal estate.
Ninth - I construe and appoint my friend Benjamin T. Gunter Executorof this my last will and testament.

At a Court held for the County of Accomack, on the 28th day of April,1879. This last-will and testament of James P. Groton, Deceased, wasproved by the Oaths of Thomas W. Blackstone and Henry C. Walker,witnesses thereto, and ordered to be recorded. And, on the motion ofBenjamin T Gunter, the Executor in the said will named, taking Oathand giving bond according to law in the penalty of fifteen thousanddollars ($15000), with John E. Wise, and John W. Gillet, suretiesthereto, who justified their sufficiency on Oath - certificate isgranted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form. And the saidbond having been Acknowledged by the several obligators therein, it isordered that the same be recorded.

acres to Tabias Bull, saying that it belonged to his sister Ann. 1760
Bull (wife Frances) left to his son Benjamin, who was then living
there. 1771 His will (wife Bridgett) did not mention the land but he
was succeeded by a son Richard, who in 1797 (wife Bridgett) left 95
acres to his son Teackle, and 50 acres each to his sons Tobias and
Richard. This land was west of that of Ann's sister Elizabeth along
the branch.
